Most businesses measure one bottom line. Stewards measure four. Score your organization on each, see the shape it makes, and find out which line is quietly carrying the others.
Be honest rather than aspirational. The value is in the gap you find, not the number you post.
Is the business genuinely profitable, sustainable, and able to fund its own future without straining?
Are employees, customers, and the surrounding community measurably better off because this organization exists?
Does the way you operate steward the physical resources you touch, or quietly spend them down?
Does the work create room for people to be known, cared for, and pointed toward a greater purpose?
This assessment adapts the quadruple bottom line framework and the "spider web" assessment chart developed by Donald E. Simmons, CFP® in The Steward Investor: Investing God's Resources for Eternal Impact (Chapter 11, "In Search of the Optimized QBL Portfolio"). Simmons built the tool to help missional investors evaluate a portfolio of companies against four bottom lines rather than one. C4EC has adapted it to a single organization looking inward at its own four.
The idea is his. The application here is ours, and we would rather say so than quietly borrow it. Read the book: thestewardinvestor.com
